City Leaders Create Wildlife Corridor

LOS ANGELES - On Earth Day, the City Council voted on a new measure that would create a wildlife corridor in hillside communities to protect the region's wildlife and preserve their local habitat.The motion pushes to identify areas in LA along the Santa Monica Mountains as a "Potential Regional Wildlife Habitat Linkage Zone" and require building permits and planning approvals that would allow wildlife to pass freely through the area.
"LA's unique landscape and ecosystem are home to many species of wildlife," said Councilmember Krekorian, who supported and helped shape the motion. "As the city grows and neighborhoods develop, we should protect open space and provide for wildlife movement throughout the Rim of the Valley Corridor, and discourage development that would harm the natural balance of these areas."
