VALLEY VILLAGE - This week, Councilmember Krekorian, in collaboration with the Neighborhood Council Valley Village, hosted a community forum to discuss traffic and speeding issues. Nearly 100 community members attended the Traffic Safety and Speed Reduction Summit to learn about the concerns plaguing neighborhoods, and find out what solutions the city can implement to improve enforcement and make streets safer.In a presentation by the LA Dept. of Transportation, General Manager Seleta Reynolds shared how LA's Vision Zero plan hopes to use a data-driven policy approach to create safer roads and reduce collisions that result in severe injury or fatalities. As the city studies the network of streets that have higher instances of collision or injury, it can use the data gathered to better engineer intersections and cross walks, conduct speed surveys and provide the LAPD with the proper tools for enforcement in local community.
LADOT also addressed community members' questions about how request stop signs, signals and safer intersections. Since the beginning of 2016, at the direction of Councilmember Krekorian, LADOT has already installed several all-way stop signs on residential streets, in addition to installing rapid flashing beacon crosswalks in North Hollywood and traffic signals in Tujunga Village, Sun Valley and elsewhere with more improvements on the way.
"Listening to the community and working with our city partners to find the right solutions for speed enforcement, speed surveys, and street enhancements through signage, signals and stop signs are just some of the ways we can move forward," said Councilmember Krekorian. "I'm committed to creating safer neighborhoods and improving mobility."
