Our community's seniors have experienced extraordinary events during their lifetimes. Their strength has been forged by the Second World War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the great turmoil and divisiveness of the 1960s. In each case, their character and courage helped our country overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges and emerge even stronger. We owe them a great debt of gratitude.Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a more dramatic impact on this generation than any other. They have endured the worst health impacts; many basic needs like shopping and congregate senior meal service has been disrupted because of their heightened Safer At Home concerns; and, their retirement security has been endangered due to the devastation of the stock market. Some seniors, isolated and afraid, are uncertain where their next meal is coming from, or how to get access to essential services.This week, Councilmember Krekorian sponsored a virtual Senior Resource Forum to help seniors navigate these issues. The virtual forum included special guest Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, who represents much of the East San Fernando Valley and also serves as Chair of the Assembly's Aging and Long Term Care Committee. Experts from both the City and County departments of aging also participated in the one-hour conversation, which is available on Facebook (video link here).
