LOS ANGELES - Natalie MacEwan is a triple major at USC who wants to become a Navy pilot. She is also a Venturer Scout. This past Wednesday, Councilmember Krekorian hosted Natalie and other scouts and scout leaders from the Greater Los Angeles Area Council and Western Los Angeles County Council for ceremonies at City Hall marking the 110th birthday of the Boy Scouts of America.
By a neat bit of symmetry, the organization has attracted more than 110 million members during its existence. Since last year, the Boy Scouts have been open to girls, which explains its new name, Scouts BSA.
In 2019, Scouts in the LA area provided over 184,000 hours of community service. There are currently more than 30,000 Scouts served by the two predominant councils in the LA area. At the end of the presentation, Natalie and Chandler Hooks, a Life Scout from Troop 1323 in Crenshaw, recited the Scout Oath and Law before a packed audience in Council Chambers.
