Crackdown on Copper Theft Continues

Last week, the LAPD Commercial Crimes Division's Metal Theft Unit (MTU), in collaboration with the office of Council President Paul Krekorian conducted compliance checks at more recycling centers and metal yards in the San Fernando Valley.

During the checks, MTU recovered 580 lbs. of street lighting wire stolen from the Bureau of Street Lighting and the Department of Transportation, with an estimated value of $30,000.00.

The MTU also recovered a 256 lb. bronze plaque stolen from the City of Burbank, with an estimated value of $10,000.00, and 3,366 lbs. of copper and aluminum wire stolen from CalTrans with an estimated value of $24,000.

The owner of the recycling center has been arrested for receiving stolen property.
