LOS ANGELES - Councilmember Krekorian honored Safe Moves founder and athlete Pat Hines to highlight February as American Heart Health Month. This summer, Hines and teammate Liz Dycus, known as Team OceanHearts, will compete in the Great Pacific Race against 15 teams from around the world to raise awareness about women's heart health. The two-woman team will set out on a grueling 2,400-mile journey from Monterey, California to Honolulu, Hawaii for the chance to make history as the first two-woman team to row across the Pacific Ocean. They are seeking to highlight the issue of heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in the United States.

In partnership with the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign, Team OceanHearts is educating people about heart disease, which impacts nearly 43 million women and results in more than 400,000 deaths each year.
Councilmember Krekorian wished the team good luck on their upcoming journey and urged the importance of healthy living and getting regularly screened to prevent the risk of heart disease and stroke. Read about and support Team OceanHearts here.
