“Today is a day of dreams fulfilled, and what true public service is all about,” said Council President (and Metro board member) Paul Krekorian as he joined local, state and federal officials to accept an $893 million grant from the U..S. Department of Transportation to fund Metro’s new East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project.
This transformational light rail line will connect communities in the East Valley with new and existing transit services, including Metrolink, Amtrak, and the Metro G (Orange) and B (Red) Lines. Clean and quiet electric trains will run up and down Van Nuys Boulevard, one of the Valley’s busiest corridors, providing a new travel alternative for the residents of Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima, many of whom are transit dependent.
Funding from the Biden-Harris administration's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was made through the Expedited Project Delivery program — the first award of its kind to a transit project anywhere in the country.
“With its connections to the G and the B Lines in North Hollywood, East San Fernando Valley Light Rail will turbocharge transit usage in the San Fernando Valley and fulfill the dream of safe, efficient, sustainable transportation for everyone who calls the Valley home,” said Krekorian.
