NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Councilmember Krekorian joined the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Bureau of Engineering, and community members to break ground on the construction of new synthetic turf soccer fields at the Whitsett Sports Fields Park. The first phase of the project will add three new fields to the sports complex - one official regulation-size field and two smaller fields. Construction on the first phase of the project is expected to be completed in January 2017. The completion of the full project will bring a total of seven new synthetic fields to NoHo, including one with access for people with disabilities.
Improvements underway include new lighting, expanding the existing parking lot at the park, installation of new bleachers, shade structures for the bleachers, fencing, landscaping, irrigation, and walkways servicing the renovated soccer fields.
The sports complex plays an important role for the nearly 9,000 residents in the local neighborhood, where community partners like United Nations Soccer League and the North Hollywood Soccer League help at-risk kids stay off the streets and on the field with youth programs and sports.
