LOS ANGELES (November 4, 2023) - Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian has released the following statement concerning current negotiations between SAG/AFTRA and the AMPTP.
“Negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP have reached a stage where a settlement should be within reach. The AMPTP needs to take SAG/AFTRA’s demands seriously and both sides need to address this negotiation with maximum urgency.
“The importance of the motion picture and television industry to our region cannot be overstated. The revenue it generates sustains many businesses and families beyond those directly employed in production. Prolonging this contract dispute further will impair the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of men and women who have no seat at the bargaining table.
“When I first entered public service, runaway production was killing California jobs. In the State Assembly I led the fight to secure the Film and Television Production Tax Credit that has kept good-paying entertainment industry jobs in our state. Failure to reach a settlement now will endanger the gains that so many in the industry and in government fought so hard for.
“I urge the negotiating teams from both sides to put aside any considerations other than reaching a just settlement, ensuring the continuing health of the industry, and thereby serving the greater good of our entire community.”
