This week, Metro Director Krekorian joined fellow board members, Metro CEO Phil Washington, transit enthusiasts and community members to mark the 25th anniversary of the Metro Red Line, currently the only Metro rail line with stops in the San Fernando Valley.The Red Line first opened in January 1993, with just a four-mile segment from Union Station to McArthur Park. The state-of-the-art subway line now connects downtown Los Angeles with Mid-Cities, Koreatown, Hollywood, Universal City/Studio City and North Hollywood, and will soon connect to West LA including the UCLA and Veterans Affairs campus. Over the last 25 years, the Red Line has carried an estimated 817 million passengers, while traveling approximately 3.6 billion miles along its 17.4 mile system here in Los Angeles.
