NORTH HOLLYWOOD - The Metro Red Line and Orange line stations in North Hollywood opened a new 194-space parking facility to improve transit access for commuters. The additional spaces will augment the station's existing 954 spots, which currently operate at near full capacity daily. According to Metro, lack of parking access deters more than 1,000 potential transit riders a day. Parking in the new lot, located along Chandler Blvd. between Fair Ave. and Vineland Ave., is free for transit riders. The new parking facility, championed by Councilmember and Metro Board Member Krekorian, was built with sustainable elements such as special permeable paving material and LED lighting. Metro is also in the process of procuring solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for use at some of the parking spaces. Adjacent to the new parking facility is also a multi-use path, offering a separated path that creates a safe connection for pedestrians and bicyclists to the existing Chandler and Orange Line bikeways."The construction of much-needed additional parking and the closure of the bikeway gap near the North Hollywood Station really addresses two of the biggest challenges we face at this importantValley transit hub," said Krekorian. "These improvements will make it easier and safer to access the Orange and Red lines by foot, bicycle and car."
