Last week Council President Krekorian cut the ribbon on NoHo 5050, a 40-unit Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) building in the heart of the NoHo Arts District Developed. Council President Krekorian arranged for $24 million of funding for this project, in collaboration with the Downtown Women's Center, Daylight Community Development, Decro Corporation and Los Angeles County Mental Health Services, including $3.5 million in bond funds made possible by voter-approved Proposition HHH.
32 of the 40 units at NoHo 5050 are set aside for unhoused women fleeing domestic violence, and another seven for unhoused families, with onsite services for those recovering from trauma. Domestic violence is a leading causes of homelessness among women, but unhoused women placed in PSH by the Downtown Women’s Center have enjoyed a 99 percent success rate in staying housed.
NoHo 5050 is the sixth PSH development to open in the Second Council District, with more on the way. Most of the tenants of NoHo 5050 will be drawn from the immediate community and the project received the unanimous endorsement of the NoHo Neighborhood Council.
The Council President noted that developers are often reluctant to undertake such projects out of fear of community opposition. “I’m so proud of North Hollywood for not being one of those communities,’’ he said. “This is a community that welcomes real solutions. This is a community that steps up and says, ‘How can we help?’ I’m honored to represent a community like this.”
