LOS ANGELES - The City of Los Angeles recently launched a new waste collection program, recycLA, which aims to expand recycling services to an estimated 80,000 apartment buildings and commercial properties across Los Angeles. RecycLA is part of the city's larger sustainability plan to reduce waste from landfills by 90 percent by 2025 and put LA on the path to zero waste. The new system divides the city into 11 zones, each of which will be served exclusively by one service provider for waste and recycling collection. According to the Bureau of Sanitation, the program will also result in fewer trucks congesting neighborhoods and less wear and tear on streets. Collection companies are also required to use only clean-fuel burning trucks, which will help to improve our air quality.
The new waste and recycling program, which began its roll-out on July 1, will also set uniform, regulated monthly rates for multi-family and commercial customers throughout Los Angeles.
