Placing a wreath at the memorial to the fallen heroes of 9/11: City Council President Paul Krekorian and Freddy Escobar, President of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles.

On September 11, 2001, the United States suffered the worst terrorist attack in its history. It is believed that 2,977 were killed, making 9/11 the most deadly assault on the United States since Pearl Harbor.

Every year, Los Angeles City officials gather at the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center of the Los Angeles Fire Department to honor the memory of the fallen, including the hundreds of New York firefighters who died as a result of the attacks, many from inhaling the dust that filled the air as they attempted to rescue survivors from the wreckage of tNew York’s World Trade Center.

Council President Krekorian, Mayor Bass and members of the City Council gathered at the Center’s monument to the fallen firefighters, a pylon salvaged from the wreckage of the Twin Towers.
