Unhoused people who enter interim shelter receive the help they need to begin their lives again. Every day, Angelenos who have struggled on the streets for years are finding their way from homelessness to employment and permanent housing through the services they receive in interim housing.
Here are two recent examples of the kind of personal victories that are made possible through the facilities Councilmember Krekorian has brought to the district:
Eric G.
Eric G. was attending college on a football scholarship when he was run over by a hit-and-run driver. He awoke from a year-long coma in the middle of the COVID pandemic, his dreams of college ruined, his injuries requiring months of grueling therapy. Given the severity of his injuries, a return to normal life was exceptionally difficult. When a family member could no longer care for him, he found himself on the street.
Fortunately, Eric found his way to Councilmember Krekorians Homeless Services Navigation Center, which connected him to shelter in the Alexandria Tiny Homes. There, he found the stability and the help he needed. Through Councilmember Krekorians employment partnership pilot program with LA:RISE at the Navigation Center, he has also been hired at a call center and is now preparing for the move to permanent housing.
Fabiola
After a medical setback in 2019, Fabiola lost her job, and soon her apartment as well. She lived in her car for two years, unable to find work or a new home during the COVID-19 lockdown. But she never gave up hope. After making contact with the Navigation Center, she gladly accepted shelter in the Alexandria Tiny Homes.
Through Councilmember Krekorians employment program with LA:RISE, she was placed in a full-time job and obtained an emergency housing voucher. Within three weeks of her first visit to the Navigation Center, she moved from living in her car to interim shelter, started full-time work, and gained the prospect of stable housing. She is now in good health and has every hope for the future.
