Unsheltered Homeless Rate Falls in Los Angeles

After years of recording continually increasing rates of homelessness, the 2024 Homeless Count has reported a decrease in homelessness from 2023 to 2024. The count showed a slight decrease in overall homelessness in both the City and County, but a more dramatic drop in unsheltered homelessness in the City.

In the City of Los Angeles, unsheltered homelessness fell by over 10 percent between 2023 and 2024, while the number of formerly unsheltered persons who are now housed in interim shelter rose by 17.7 percent.

After years of sustained effort — building interim shelter and supportive housing, conducting sustained outreach to the unhoused, and resolving large and hazardous encampments — we are showing definite results.
