Wat Thai Temple Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Councilmember Paul Krekorian joined the monks and congregants of Wat Thai of Los Angeles in celebrating the temples 50th anniversary. For the last half century, this temple in North Hollywood has been the spiritual and cultural center of the Thai community of Southern California, and has also provided a haven of spiritual comfort for refugees from Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, as well as people of many other backgrounds and birthplaces.For those five decades, Wat Thai has been a place of peace, dedicated to the principle that every human life is precious. It has been a welcoming place to all people and has made an outstanding contribution to the City of Los Angeles through the preservation and dissemination of Thai culture and Buddhist ethics. Observance of the Temples 50th anniversary coincided with celebration of the 90th birthday of the Abbot of Wat Thai Los Angeles, the venerable Phra Thep Mongkhon Withet.
