Councilmember Paul Krekorian joined Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilmembers Mitch OFarrell and Nithya Raman in launching a new program to make more reclaimed water available for landscaping. Residents who bring their own containers can take home up to 300 gallons of recycled water suitable for watering their gardens, saving precious fresh water for drinking, cooking, washing and bathing.
VIDEO: Recycled Water Station Opens
Even while we are experiencing unprecedented and historic drought, we must think of drought as a permanent condition, said Councilmember Krekorian. For decades, this city has taken tremendous steps to ensure water conservation, and those measures have been a great success. Still, despite those efforts, the available supply of our precious drinkable water continues to be in peril. These recycled water filling stations will ensure that the people and businesses of Los Angeles have a plentiful supply of safe water for landscaping and other uses, thereby preserving our limited supply of potable drinking water. It is an important step in making the kinds of changes to our behavior around consumption that will be necessary for this city to continue to flourish in the future.
