NORTH HOLLYWOOD - It was the Oscars for high school students, the Golden Globes for budding directors. On Saturday, May 30, student filmmakers dazzled a crowd of more than 350 people with their short movies.
Eleven winners took home prizes at the 5th Annual Los Angeles Student Film Festival, the state's longest-running showcase for student films. Founded and hosted by Councilmember Krekorian--author of the state's first successful film tax incentive--this year's festival had 43 finalists in eight categories, all of which were screened on Saturday.
"This is the biggest, best and longest-running student film festival in California. It's enriching for the young people who participate, their families and everyone who attends," said Councilmember Krekorian. "I'm proud to give young filmmakers a venue to tell stories they care about, and to give filmgoers an opportunity to watch high-quality, entertaining short movies. These students are the future of our local film industry."
