Roughly two-thirds of Los Angeles police officers are people of color, but LAPD still needs to hire many more women to achieve a department that is truly representative of Los Angeles.
Women on the Rise, an LAPD hiring fair sponsored by Councilmember Paul Krekorian at Valley College on October 8, was an outstanding community event and a major step towards that goal. The hiring fair offered potential applicants, their families, and members of the general public an opportunity to learn about the many possible career options at the LAPD.
Well over 100 young people, male and female, applied for sworn and civilian positions and took the written examination, while 74 completed the physical qualification exam on the spot. The Los Angeles Police Department still needs to hire hundreds more officers to provide for public safety, and thanks to Councilmember Krekorian’s most recent budget it now has the resources to hire them.
